Borussia Monchengladbach have signed France Under-21 striker Marcus Thuram from Guingamp.

The 21-year-old, son of 1998 World Cup winner Lilian Thuram, has signed a contract running until June 2023.

For Guingamp, Thuram scored nine goals last season in 31 appearances, which contributed to almost one third of the French side's total for the entire season.

Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl said on the club's website: 'We're thrilled to have Marcus on board.

'He is a fast, robust and dangerous attacker who fits into our squad well. We're confident that he will make his mark in the Bundesliga.'

Gladbach head coach Marco Rose is likely to use Thuram's utility as a left-winger, in order to fill the void left by Thorgan Hazard's departure to Borussia Dortmund.

Thuram made his professional debut at the age of 17 for Sochaux and joined Guigamp in the summer of 2017, but could not prevent the club being relegated to Ligue 2 last term.

He was also part of the France squad which reached the semi-finals of this year's European Under-21 Championship in Italy, and scored one goal whilst competing for his country at the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
