Southampton's 2018-19 transfer activity
Mark Hughes landed several solid coups in the transfer window this summer, signing former Borussia Monchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard for £18m, as well as Basel's Mohamed Elyounoussi for Basel for £16m.
The Saints were busy on deadline day as well when they worked to secure the loan signing of Danny Ings from Liverpool , where he had struggled to regain match-fitness and would have slipped well below the pecking order in an attacking lineup that includes Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and now a newly-rejuvenated Daniel Sturridge.
Ings had grown up a Saints fan and will have re-signed for his boyhood club. The loan deal will be made permanent next summer, with Southampton eventually paying £20m to the Reds.
