Mario Lemina has ended an indifferent four years with Southampton, moving to French side Nice. According to transfermarkt.com, the deal will net the Saints just 4.95 million pounds, representing a loss of 10 million on the amount that they paid Juventus for his services in 2017.

Lemina has spent the last two seasons away from the club on loan to Galatasary and Fulham respectively, so a sale comes as little surprise.

Brandon Williams blow

Earlier in the window, Southampton had been credited with an interest in Manchester United defender Brandon Williams on a loan deal. However, such hopes now seem dead in the water.

This comes as a result of the Red Devils back-up fullback, Alex Telles, being ruled out for a few weeks with an ankle, meaning that Williams will suddenly be needed for the beginning of the season.

Additionally, Luke Shaw may miss the beginning of the new campaign after his England exploits, with the club “to monitor” the fullback after it was revealed he played through broken ribs. Due to all of this, Williams could even find himself an unlikely starter come opening day, all but ending any prospect of they youngster going out on loan before the season begins.

Simeu to be announced

Perhaps one for the future rather than the present, but Southampton have snatched promising defender Dynel Simeu from Chelsea after he rejected a new contract in west London.

Simeu follows in the footsteps of fellow academy players Lewis Bate and Myles Peart Harris in leaving Stamford Bridge this summer in search of first team football and, in Simeu’s case, it seems to be when, not if, the deal is made official.
