Southampton vs Man Utd Preview: Solskjaer's side hope to return to winning ways

  /  autty

Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from a shock defeat to Crystal Palace when they head to St Mary's to face Southampton on Saturday.

Solskjaer's men have the quality to see off the Saints, but if the Norwegian approaches this game in the same manner as he did against Palace - with sheer pace and expecting Southampton to let them play on the counter - he may come away disappointed.

Head to head results and history

Man Utd have won 65 times against Southampton, losing 28 times and drawing another 32.

The sides had two entertaining League games last term, with United beating the Saints 3-2 at Old Trafford and drawing 2-2 at St Mary's.

Probable Lineups

Team news

Ryan Bertrand is the only injury concern for Southampton, with the winger out due to an ankle problem.

United are facing a problem at left-back with Luke Shaw suffering a hamstring problem against Palace.

With Diogo Dalot also out, either Ashley Young or Marcos Rojo is set to start on the left flank.

Anthony Martial is out with a thigh injury, while Alexis Sanchez has joined Inter Milan on loan - and that could see Mason Greenwood starting this weekend.

Elsewhere, Eric Bailly (knee) and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (knee) are both unavailable. Jese Lingard could also be dropped after struggling to make an impact so far this term.

Prediction

Southampton 1-2 Man Utd
