Spanish second tier team Cadiz are considering the prospect of naming their ground after former Liverpool striker Michael Robinson who passed away on Monday.

Robinson ended his playing career in Spain while playing for Osasuna but went on to become adored around the country after becoming a pundit.

His death at the age of 61 was announced on Monday following a long battle with cancer.

Cadiz currently play at the Ramon de Carranza which holds just over 20,000.

Robinson was an 'adoptive son' of Cadiz city, and such was his popularity in Spain that Cadiz City Council have proposed a name change of the ground which will be voted for by fans.

'The name of Michael Robinson is a possibility that may be on the table when addressing the final decision, like many others that are very significant,' the report cites an official as saying.

'Although what this government would like is for the new name to emerge and it is born from the participatory process that involves Cadiz ‘Cadism’.'

Robinson had been a beloved football pundit in Spain for 30 years and his last game in the role was as recent as Atletico Madrid's surprise Champions League victory over Liverpool back in March.

Robinson was a treble winner with the Reds in 1984 having lifted the First Division title, the European Cup and the League Cup.

He also had stints at Preston, Manchester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Queens Park Rangers.

In addition he was capped 24 times by the Republic of Ireland between 1980 and 1986 scoring four goals before ending his 14-year career at Osasuna in 1989.
