Spurs fans gloat over Guardiola's old dig that they are the 'Harry Kane team'

Tottenham fans have a long memory and took the chance to gloat over Pep Guardiola following their Champions League quarter-final victory on Wednesday.

In October 2017, the Manchester City manager dismissed Spurs as being 'the Harry Kane team', a comment that supporters took exception to.

It was seen as disrespectful at the time and but finally they have their revenge.

Kane suffered a nasty knee ligament injury in the first leg, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

So Mauricio Pochettino's side's progression on Wednesday tasted extra sweet as the 'Harry Kane' team managed to go through without him.

'We're in September. Chelsea won 13 games in a row last season.' Guardiola said in 2017.

'They were unbeatable, they won the league. It's not easy. Of course this season they play in Europe. It's a little more complicated for all the teams.

'We have United [and] the Harry Kane team who scores every game two or three goals.'

At the time Pochettino hit back, saying: 'I take that situation, that didn't affect me but the reality is it was very disrespectful for many people and it's difficult to understand because he was part of the big success at Barcelona with Messi at his best, and I never said it was 'the Messi team'.'

And after the dramatic scenes at the Etihad, plenty of Spurs supporters chose to stick the boot in.

One fan wrote: 'Kaned by the Kane-less team', and another added: 'It took us a mighty long time to get our revenge but Yay.'

A third pointed out the fact that Spurs hadn't strengthened since those comments in 2017: 'Reminder that we haven't actually signed anyone additional since those comments either.'
