Manchester City star Raheem Sterling has expressed his frustration with Brent Council for their lack of support in his attempts to open a football academy.

Sterling, who was raised by a single mother in the shadow of Wembley, wants to offer opportunities for disadvantaged children.

However, Sterling is still awaiting a response from Brent Council regarding whether his plans can come to reality, and also stated that he is disappointed that the council are trying to sell off an important part of his childhood in Brent Park.

Sterling wrote on Twitter: '@brentcouncil need to answer this! Why are my team continuously getting no response, when I'm trying to help the community (especially the kids)- whilst the council are still trying to sell off a key part of my childhood; Brent Park. Can someone answer this pls? @DawnButlerBrent'.

Last year Sterling gave his support to Brent's ultimately successful bid to become London's Borough of Culture in 2020.

Now established as a standout player for both England and City, Sterling commenced his career at Queens Park Rangers' academy before joining Liverpool.

This season Sterling has been in excellent form, as evidenced by the fact that he has scored nine goals and provided six assists in 14 Premier League appearances.

Last month Sterling signed a new long-term contract with City that is set to run until the summer of 2023.

City, who are in second place in the Premier League, return to action on Saturday when they host Crystal Palace.
