Luis Suarez will come up against Liverpool for the first time since leaving Anfield in 2014
Luis Suarez has claimed if the Liverpool team he starred in had won the Premier League in 2013/14, it would have been "even bigger" than if Jurgen Klopp's side clinch this season's title.
The Uruguayan, who departed for the Nou Camp in 2014, will face his former club for the first time since leaving Merseyside when Barcelona play Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg on Wednesday.
Liverpool were pipped to the title by Manchester City in 2013/14, with the Reds dropping crucial points against Crystal Palace and Chelsea during the end-of-season run-in.
The former Reds' forward told The Guardian: "It was different then. If we'd won the league, I think it would have been an even bigger achievement than if this team do.
"When I was there, it was very different. We were on the verge of the Premier League with a squad nowhere near as good.
"They didn't spend as much as they're doing now. Any player would like to go to Liverpool now.
"I understand what they're going through and it can't be easy but I think with us it was different because it was: 'now or never', a one-off."
Liverpool beat Huddersfield 5-0 at Anfield to return to the top of the Premier League, holding a two-point gap over Manchester City who have three games to play compared to Liverpool's two.
Since Suarez left, Liverpool have made big money moves for the likes of Virgil van Dijk (£75m), Allison (£66.8m) Naby Keita (£48m), Fabinho (£39m) & Mohammed Salah (£36m).
The 32-year-old, who netted 82 goals in 125 appearances in all competitions during his three-year Liverpool spell, is wary of the attacking threat Liverpool will pose when they come to the Nou Camp for the semi-final first leg.
"The front three are very quick, technically gifted, so much talent; they're players who make the difference and Liverpool's results depend on them.
"The kind of players you'd love to play with, with the level you'd expect for a club like Liverpool, built to win the Premier League and the Champions League."
