Supercomputer predicts the final Premier League table with new champions crowned

The Premier League's expected final positions has been revealed after a supercomputer ran thousands of predictions with some shocking results being discovered.

Liverpool are the surprise table-toppers heading into the second international break of the season with new boss Arne Slot enjoying a dream start to his managerial reign at Anfield.

Manchester City and Arsenal follow behind with just one point separating the top three teams after seven games, while Chelsea have starred under Enzo Maresca's guidance.

Erik ten Hag's third campaign at Manchester United was expected to see them push for the title but have instead endured their worst-ever start to a Premier League season and remain 14th in the standings.

Now, Opta's supercomputer has crunched the numbers and have predicted fans will be celebrating a new Premier League champion come May that will end City's grip on the English top-flight title.

The expected points model uses statistics from the season so far to simulate where each of the 20 competing teams will finish with Man United fans looking set for a disastrous year if the numbers prove to be correct.

The computer model has picked Liverpool to win a second Premier League title by holding off challenges from Arsenal and Man City to do so.

Chelsea - spurred on by Cole Palmer's sensational goalscoring form - are the surprise candidates to finish seconds in what would be an outstanding result for Maresca after a turbulent few years at the club.

The Blues are predicted to finish above their London rivals, Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta's side tipped to not even finish in the top four and down in 8th position come the end of the season.

Pep Guardiola's City side are predicted to drop to a third-place finish having won the league for a record-breaking four consecutive seasons, with Tottenham fourth and Aston Villa fifth.

Fulham and Bournemouth can be buoyed after strong starts to the season and are calculated to keep improving by ending the year in sixth and seventh.

However, Man United have been predicted to finish the season in a disastrous 10th position that would condemn the club to back-to-back disasters.

At the other end of the table, Wolves, Leicester and Ipswich have been tipped to be relegated to the Championship after struggling in the opening weeks of the Premier League.
