Tanguy Ndombele tests positive for coronavirus and Spurs midfielder will miss out on France squad

Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has tested positive for coronavirus and has been removed from the France squad for games against Sweden and Croatia next month.

Ndombele will sit out the upcoming fixtures, as will Manchester United star Paul Pogba, who has also contracted the disease. Eduardo Camvaniga has been called up in Pogba's place.

The 23-year-old will have to miss Spurs' pre-season schedule for the next 14 days as a result of this latest news. Jose Mourinho's men have already featured in one pre-season outing, when they beat Ipswich 3-0 last weekend.

The Frenchman will be hoping to have a more successful season in north London than his debut campaign. Ndombele scored two goals and provided four assists for Spurs in the 2019-20 season after signing from Lyon for a club record fee of £65million.

Ndombele's future could lie away from Spurs, however, with a number of clubs across Europe interested in the promising midfielder.

Inter Milan have been a keen party and are planning to make a fresh bid worth £55m for the former Lyon star, after previous negotiations over a player exchange fizzled out.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly reluctant to take a big hit on Ndombele, with the notoriously tough negotiator said to have faith that he can thrive under the guidance of Jose Mourinho.

The midfielder has not started for the north London side since March when he was hauled off at half-time in a 1-1 draw at Burnley, which led to fierce public criticism of his efforts by Mourinho.
