Match Report
United were hoping to bounce back from their humiliating derby day defeat to Manchester City but met a confident Newcastle side who were anything but accommodating.
Eddie Howe's much-changed outfit grabbed an early lead when Miguel Almiron finished smartly after a wonderful run down the right-flank from Tino Livramento.
The youngster was one of eight changes to the squad from a weekend draw with Wolves and it was another starlet, Lewis Hall, who scored a glorious second. The 19-year-old volleyed from the edge of the area to claim his first senior goal.
Ten Hag made two changes at the break and despite starting well his side conceded a third when Joe Willock thumped home from range. Boos rang around Old Trafford at the break and at full time as the Dutch manager looked on after another bruising home defeat.
