Rio Ferdinand could not hide his dismay as Manchester United rolled over and let Liverpool run riot in a six-goal second-half at Anfield on Sunday.
Erik ten Hag's high-flying United had their wings clipped by Jurgen Klopp's Reds with Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah all netting twice in the 7-0 victory.
Man United legend Ferdinand - who won every cup available to him during 12 years at Old Trafford - labelled his beloved club's thrashing as an 'absolute massacre' and told embarrassed stars to let the feeling of defeat 'sink in'.
'We've been pulverised,' Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel Vibe with Five.
'That was a massacre. An absolute massacre at Anfield. That's all you can call it. The players will be feeling embarrassed.'
Ferdinand made 455 appearances for Manchester United under the stern stewardship of legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson but did find himself on the receiving ends of some truly torrid results, most notably a 6-1 defeat to cross-city rivals Man City in 2011.
But Ferdinand and his United team-mates bounced back that season and the 44-year-old has urged the club's current crop of stars to not let their humiliation derail a turnaround season that has seen them win the Carabao Cup and still fighting in the FA Cup, Europa League, and English top-flight.
United's down-n-out stars arrived early to training on Monday, with Ferdinand echoing the sentiments of many angry supporters as he demanded players 'sit there and let that feeling sink in' after their embarrassing trip to Merseyside.
He added: '[Erik] ten Hag, man… If I was him, the team would know I would be upset but one of the main points would be do not let this derail your season now.
'You come back in tomorrow, you get back to work, you look at what went wrong and then you go to Southampton at Old Trafford.
'You make sure that you give the fans something to shout about after the embarrassment here at Anfield.
'All of you, sit there and let that feeling sink in about how embarrassing and how bad it feels.'
Man United won't have to wait long to avenge themselves when LaLiga outfit Real Betis visit Old Trafford in Europe's second-tier cup competition on Thursday.
Red Devils boss Ten Hag was equally alarmed at how his team collapsed in-front of a baying Liverpool crowd and delivered an x-rated rant in a silent post-match dressing room.
He then hauled his players into the club's Carrington training complex where the Dutchman then showed his flops various sections of their dismantling in an attempt to provoke a reaction. Not that they should need to be poked to get a reaction.
