According to The Sun, the vodka company founded by the ball boy kicked by Eden Hazard has been sold for £300 million.
The ball boy who was kicked by Eden Hazard in 2013 has just sold his vodka business for £300 million. Charlie Morgan founded Au Vodka with childhood friend Jackson Quinn in 2015. The company has now been acquired by US spirits giant Sazerac for £300 million.
Morgan became an internet sensation 13 years ago when Swansea played Chelsea in the League Cup. Hazard was trying to retrieve the ball from out of bounds, and 17-year-old Morgan deliberately slowed him down. Hazard accidentally kicked Morgan and was sent off with a red card. Morgan's face was subsequently featured repeatedly in major media outlets.
Just two years later, Morgan co-founded Au Vodka with his friend Quinn. In 2017, celebrity DJ and presenter Charlie Sloth invested in the brand. As Sloth leveraged his connections in the rap and hip-hop music scene to promote it, the drink became increasingly popular and has now sold for a remarkable price. Sports superstars including boxer Floyd Mayweather and footballer Ronaldinho have also endorsed it.
Following the acquisition, Sazerac CEO Jake Wenz stated: "Au Vodka is a brand we have long admired. What Charlie, Jackson and Charlie have built in just over a decade is nothing short of amazing and extremely rare. We have big plans for Au and welcome the brand to the Sazerac family."
