The Sun: Man City confident of overturning financial ruling, executives assure players

According to The Sun's football section, Manchester City's top brass has assured players that the club will legally challenge the financial ruling against it.

The Sun understands that Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano reiterated the club's confidence in overturning the ruling to players after the team resumed training on Thursday.

Despite the club's uncertain future, the atmosphere at Manchester City's training ground remains calm, with players instructed to focus on on-field performance.

Soriano addressed the entire squad before manager Enzo Maresca's speech, and the team then began preparations for their upcoming match against Liverpool.

Manchester City's leadership hopes that the ongoing legal battle will not affect the team's momentum following the international break.

Manchester City cited the precedent of successfully overturning a UEFA penalty in 2020, when the club's two-year ban from European competitions was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Sources within the club insist that Manchester City is confident of winning the latest legal challenge. A source told The Sun that Thursday's training ground atmosphere was calm and the club is working to maintain the positive atmosphere from before the international break.

Maresca expressed similar sentiments in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool fixture, stating that he fully trusts the club's handling of the matter. He said: "First of all, good morning everyone. I understand why most of you are here, but the only thing I can say is what I have already said: things are still progressing, and at this moment, I completely trust the club. That's all I can say about it."

When asked if he believed Manchester City could win the appeal, Maresca said: "Of course I have spoken to the club, and we all trust the club, and perhaps the best time to talk about this is when we win this appeal."

Former manager Pep Guardiola is also a key figure supporting Manchester City through this turbulent period. The Sun previously reported that Guardiola is expected to attend Manchester City's upcoming match against Paris Saint-Germain to show support for his former club.

Guardiola managed Manchester City for 10 years and has defended the club in previous related investigations on multiple occasions. Even after leaving, he remains a staunch supporter of Manchester City.

Guardiola has remained in contact with Maresca, and the two spoke after Manchester City's recent match against Manchester United. Maresca confirmed the conversation and welcomed Guardiola back to the Etihad, saying the former manager always has a place at the club.

Maresca said: "I spoke to Pep after the last game against Manchester United, but I know he will be here."

He added: "He is always welcome here. Having been here for 10 years, he can come back at any time, not just to watch a match but also to attend a training session, anytime."
