The UK government may ask FIFA to suspend Quansah's ban

The British government may contact FIFA regarding Quansah's FIFA World Cup ban, according to The Telegraph.

Quansah was shown a straight red card after a VAR intervention for a flying tackle on an opponent during England's FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match against Mexico, making him the fourth player in England's history to be sent off in a FIFA World Cup match.

As things stand, Quansah will miss England's quarter-final against Norway due to suspension. However, The Telegraph claims that the UK Attorney General, Lord Hemmer, may intervene to try to get the ban suspended.

FIFA had previously decided to suspend Balogun's one-match ban, allowing him to play against Belgium.

However, after FIFA President Infantino received a call from US President Trump, FIFA approved Balogun's participation in the quarter-finals. If a similar approach is taken, Quansah could also continue as England's right-back against Norway.

According to The Telegraph, Lord Hemmer has opened the door to asking FIFA to suspend the ban. Earlier, sources said he "would do whatever it takes to protect the national interests of the UK."
