Arsenal are set to appoint Francis Cagigao as their permanent head of recruitment as Raul Sanllehi continues to overhaul their backroom staff.

Cagigao - the scout who brought the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Santi Cazorla and Hector Bellerin to Arsenal - has been in the role on an interim basis since Sven Mislintat departed the club in January.

And, according to Football.London, he will be appointed full-time once Arsenal have a sporting director in place.

Edu, who played for the Gunners during their 2003-04 Invincibles season, is the front-runner for that role but the Brazilian football federation haven't granted their permission for him to leave his post with them.

Though Edu is likely to be available once Brazil exit this summer's Copa America, Cagigao, 49, will now likely play a more significant role in Arsenal's summer recruitment.

He knows the club well having been a youth team player in the 1980s and has an impressive track record having helped sign Fabregas, Cazorla and Bellerin. He almost secured the signing of Lionel Messi as a 15-year-old.

Cagigao, head of football Sanllehi, chief negotiator Huss Fahmy and head coach Unai Emery will work together to oversee Arsenal's summer signings.

Cagigao stated out as Arsenal's chief scout in Spain before being promoted to head of international recruitment and will now take on Mislintat's former job.

In the meantime, he has been instrumental in the pursuit of Ituano's Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli, set to arrive at the Emirates Stadium in a £6million deal this summer.
