Thomas Partey has been warned against joining Arsenal by his national team coach amid interest from the Premier League side.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder recently emerged as a top priority for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who is planning a summer rebuild at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta has already secured the services of Willian from Chelsea and appears to be closing in on a new deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as well as chasing the Ghanian midfielder.
However, Ghana coach CK Akonnor has said that he would rather have Partey remain in Spain as he is guaranteed to play in the Champions League.
'Honestly, I wouldn't want him to move to Arsenal because with Atletico, he will always play Champions League football,' he said.
'His position is guaranteed and he will always play.'
The Gunners failed to reach the Champions League for next season after finishing eigtht in the Premier League table. Instead, they managed to qualify for the group stages of the Europa League after winning the FA Cup.
Akonnor stressed that Arsenal's lack of consistency to qualify among Europe's elite means Partey should stay at Atletico.
He added: 'With Arsenal, I'm not too sure. Arsenal fans will kill me [for saying he should not join them].
'I hope that, and I'm sure money issues will come in, but I hope that whatever he asks for, Atletico will be able to pay.'
