The partner of Valencia winger Justin Kluivert was the victim of assault and robbery after thieves targeted the Roma loanee's family home in Betera, according to reports.
The perpertrators used the LaLiga fixture list to take advantage of Kluivert's absence, with the forward in Palma preparing for Thursday evening's tie against Mallorca.
As per Valencia Plaza, Kluivert's partner was beaten by the assailants during the robbery after returning home from walking their dogs on Wednesday night.
It is believed the perimeter alarm had not been set, which in turn didn't alert the woman to the initial break-in, with the three thieves able to enter the house through the garden.
She was then attacked as the criminals demanded to know were the valuables were in the house, with the robbers – who Spanish news outlets have described as 'hooded', with one speaking to her in an English accent – stealing watches, jewelery, and clothing worth close to £138,000 (€160,000).
Kluivert's partner is said to be suffering from shock and minor injuries after the assault, and the player has stayed with the travelling squad in Mallorca.
The robbery follows a worrying trend in Spain that sees criminal use fixture lists to learn when players and coaches will be away from home, giving them the opportunity to try and rob an empty property.
In January, then-manager Gennaro Gattuso thwarted an attempt on his house in Compolivar, near Valencia, the robbers deterred by the two guard dogs on his property.
Gattuso had also installed a state-of-the-art security system that allowed police to watch back CCTV footage of would-be assailants.
Kluivert's team-mate Samu Castillejo was burgled during his debut at the club when Valencia played Girona in their opening game of the 2022/23 campaign.
Elsewhere, the homes of Karim Benzema, Alvaro Morata, and Dani Carvajal in Madrid were all targeted, and Chelsea's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was left with a broken jaw when his house in Barcelona was set upon by four armed men.
The striker was threatened with firearms and iron bars before being beaten, and the thieves escaped with valuables after they gained access to the player's safe.
Three days later, Aubameyang signed a two-year deal to move to Chelsea, and after requiring surgery on his injury, the striker was required to play in a custom facial mask for most of September.
