Tom Heaton admits he may move away from Burnley in January

Tom Heaton has admitted that he is keeping his options open in the January transfer window as he continues to struggle for minutes at Burnley.

The Burnley goalkeeper has been battling with Nick Pope for the No 1 spot since last season at Turf Moor but there is even more competition now since the arrival of Joe Hart this summer.

And the 32-year-old has insisted that it 'doesn't need a rocket scientist' to figure out that it would be difficult to fit all three of the England goalkeepers in at the club.

Heaton opened up on how he found it tough that he was snubbed by manager Sean Dyche for the opening game of the season against Southampton.

'Joe was thrown in against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Europa League,' Heaton told the Mirror. 'The manager then kept him in for the weekend for the first Premier League game of the season at Southampton, which was frustrating for me.

'I can't lie. That was tough. Obviously, I knew Joe well and have great respect for him, but, to be perfectly honest, I was expecting to play.'

And while Heaton may be struggling for starting places at club level, his chances of starting for England have dwindled as he has fallen down in the pecking order behind Everton's Jordan Pickford too.

'It doesn't need a rocket scientist to see that it's going to be difficult to fit us all [Pope and Hart] in.

'Come the January transfer window, I've got to keep my options open. The one thing I've been consistent about in my career is moving clubs in order to play games.'
