Alan Shearer has blasted Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu for his mistake that led to Manchester City's opener.

City took the lead after a defensive howler from the recalled Japanese player, 24, as he attempted to play a pass back to his goalkeeper.

The Belgian midfielder, 31, was on hand to guide home a perfect finish past a helpless Aaron Ramsdale.

The football pundit, 52, said: 'They have responded really well, firstly from conceding that goal in the way they did. Huge error, doesn't need anyone to tell him that but what about the finish.

'How cool was he? An incredible finish. You have to smell the danger, he gambled and got his reward in the end.

'He anticipates it really well but it is a huge error from Tomiaysu. I'm not sure whether he actually see's him. If he doesn't he should do but that is a very very difficult finish.

'Left-foot, his awareness of where he is, where the goalkeeper is, the direction to get on that, what a finish. It is just world class. One player you don't want it to fall to is Kevin de Bruyne.'

Arsenal were awarded a penalty five minutes before the break as Ederson collided with Eddie Nketiah after the striker had got an effort away.

Bukayo Saka made no mistake from the spot, sending Ederson the wrong way to level.
