An insight into who Tottenham would look to replace current no.1 goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with should he leave this summer has been revealed on Friday.
Hugo Lloris’ Tottenham stint
Hugo Lloris joined Spurs in 2012 from French outfit Lyon, for a fee believed to be around £11m.
The Frenchman has since gone on to enjoy a solid career in north London.
All told, Lloris has notched 382 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites. Across these outings, Lloris has managed to keep 129 clean sheets, whilst conceding 429.
Despite having been a mainstay in Tottenham’s first-choice XI for nearly a decade now, however, Lloris’ future in London isn’t too clear at present.
This is because the 34-year-old’s current contract with Spurs will run out in the summer of 2022.
Tottenham eyeing goalkeepers
Should Lloris indeed end up leaving for free over the summer, Spurs look to be eyeing a replacement for the Frenchman.
The Independent have reported on Friday that Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez is top of Spurs’ wish list should Lloris leave this summer:
The report itself adds that there is an acceptance that any deal for Martinez would prove very difficult to negotiate as the Argentine is a popular figure in the Aston Villa dressing room, who is unlikely to agitate to leave.
They add that Tottenham have looked at several other targets as well as Martinez, such as Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro, Napoli’s Alex Meret and West Brom’s Sam Johnstone,
