Tottenham could make history and win their first Premier League title if they snatch Hakim Ziyech from bitter rivals Chelsea, according to their former player Rafael van der Vaart.
Antonio Conte's side have made a solid start to the season and sit third after 13 games - five points behind leaders Arsenal.
Chelsea, who are sixth in the table, have barely used Hakim Ziyech this season - with the Moroccan international only making one start so far this campaign.
'Hakim Ziyech has to join Tottenham,' Van der Vaart told Ziggo Sport during their Champions League coverage on Wednesday.
‘If Tottenham get Hakim Ziyech, they could win the Premier League. I am serious.’
The 29-year-old has struggled to make an impact since his £33million move from Ajax in 2020.
This season, he has had to get used to occupying one of the places on Chelsea's bench, with Ziyech an unused sub in nine out of Chelsea's 17 games in all competitions.
Ziyech had explored the possibility of leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window, with the likes of Spurs, Manchester United and AC Milan all linked.
Van der Vaart's Ziggo Sport colleague and Dutch legend Marco van Basten, said it's a 'pity for the whole of football' that Ziyech is stuck on the bench.
‘There is another transfer window coming up. It is sad and a shame. Ziyech is a great player. We have to see someone like that, we watch TV for such a player and we come to the stadium.
‘It is a pity for the whole of football that he is on the bench. If these kinds of players do not get minutes, it is not good for football.
‘There should actually be a rule that clubs can only have a certain number of players.
‘So they [Chelsea] have way too many and that actually makes football less interesting. A player like Ziyech could just play at another club and entertain the fans.’
If he were to sensationally join Tottenham, Ziyech would still face a lot of competition against the likes of Son Heung-min and Richarlison.
The claims made on Dutch television perhaps can be explained by his impact at Ajax, where he scored 49 goals in 165 appearances.
Ziyech was part of the Ajax team that were famously knocked out by Spurs in the semi-finals of the Champions League back in 2019.
Since joining Chelsea, he has made 90 appearances and scored 14 goals.
