Tottenham chase Ilaix Moriba

In the dying days of the summer window, it appeared that Tottenham were set to splash out once more on a promising midfielder, this time in the form of Ilaix Moriba. The Barcelona youngster has just 12 months left on his current contract, and is allegedly refusing to extend his deal, prompting clubs across Europe to be put on red alert.

As per Spanish media, Moriba’s agent was in London on Saturday for crucial talks with Spurs, with a fee with Barcelona for his services already having been agreed.

In English press too, the interest appeared credible, the reliable Alasdair Gold revealing that:

“Tottenham [were] feeling it’s just too good an opportunity to turn down as they look to try to secure one of the game’s top young players.”

However, he did caveat the statement with:

“The move for Moriba is still at a delicate stage, with plenty of big clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, looking at what would be a bargain buy of less than £20m for one of Europe’s top young players.”

Moriba seemingly close to Leipzig switch

However, it appears that Spurs have been dealt a blow in their chase for the 18-year-old as Fabrizio Romano reports that personal terms have been agreed with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

It only remains for an agreement to be struck between the two clubs for Mroiba to swap Spain for Germany, and frustrate Spurs in the process.
