Your morning Tottenham Hotspur digest on Wednesday, March 29.
Fabio Paratici ban extended worldwide
Tottenham director of football Fabio Paratici has had his 30-month ban from football activity extended worldwide by FIFA after initially only being imposed by the Italian FA. As the man in charge of footballing operations at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, this has descended Spurs' search for a new manager into chaos.
A FIFA statement read: “FIFA can confirm that following a request by the Italian FA (FIGC), the chairperson of FIFA disciplinary committee has decided to extend the sanctions imposed by FIGC on several football officials to have worldwide effect.”
Both Juventus and Paratici have denied wrongdoing and appealed the decision. The news will likely mean Paratici's Spurs tenure will come to a premature end after joining the club in the summer of 2021.
Coming at such a crucial time for the club, this will come as a blow to the north London outfit who are seeking Antonio Conte's replacement as manager and planning for the summer transfer window. Paratici was due to be a key figure in appointing Spurs' next manager, but the club will now have to conduct this process in his absence.
Potential Paratici replacement could tempt Pochettino to return
Tottenham have been handed a boost in their search for Fabio Paratici's replacement as director of football after a potential target has seemingly made himself available for the position. One figure linked with the role has been Getafe general director Ramon Planes.
Should they wish to pursue that option, Tottenham have been handed a boost after Getafe president Angel Torres appeared to remove any obstacles of a move to north London. According to COPE, Torres "will not put any impediment" in place should Planes want a move.
Reports claim the Spanish director's days at current club Getafe are "numbered". He is set to depart at the end of this campaign, and will do so "without any closed offer" to move elsewhere, allowing Spurs to swoop in if they desire.
Julian Nagelsmann Tottenham concern revealed
While Tottenham have firmly established themselves as one of the Premier League's 'big six', becoming one of the biggest names in world football in the process, Nagelsmann reportedly has concerns this could be a step down in his managerial career. German broadcaster Constantin Eckner spoke about the head coach's reservations in accepting the vacant position on TalkSPORT, instead preferring to wait for the Real Madrid job to become available.
Eckner added the perception of Spurs in Germany may not be as high as they are regarded in England. He instead compared the Lilywhites to Bayer Leverkusen, who currently sit eighth in the Bundesliga, which clearly represents a drop down in standard from the league champions he had been managing.
