Tottenham send scouts to watch Dzeko as Mourinho eyes January transfer (Mirror)

Jose Mourinho has ordered Spurs' scouts to give him the lowdown on Edin Dzeko, according to Mirror.

The new Spurs' boss sent one of his senior spies to Italy last week to see Roma's ace marksman.

Mourinho wants to take the load off Harry Kane's shoulders and has identified the former Manchester City man as someone who can plug the gap.

Dzeko was in action for Paolo Fonseca's side last week during the victory over Verona and is still a first-choice for the Giallorossi.

In fact, the striker, who will be 34 next year, signed an extended deal with Roma that sees him tied to the Italian giants for the next two seasons.

However, Spurs need to find an alternative to Kane who is spearheading their attack and presently only teenager Troy Parrott could step straight into his shoes.

The club could mix and match as they did last season when the England ace was injured but the north Londoners have been treading a fine line since they allowed Fernando Llorente to run down his contract.

Mauricio Pochettino failed to replace the Spaniard but clearly Mourinho has looked at Kane's workload and needs an insurance policy should his star man pick up a knock.

Dzeko's goal record in Serie A has been impressive. He is still finding the net at a rate approaching one every other game following his £10m move from Manchester City four years ago.

He did agree a fresh contract during the summer and the Giallorossi clearly feel there is sufficient life left in those legs with Mourinho potentially offering the Bosnia international a lucrative end to his career.
