Dele Alli's new goal celebration looked simple enough when he executed it against Newcastle United on Saturday, but it is evidently harder than it looks after he failed in his attempts to teach his team-mates.
The midfielder scored the winning goal in their 2-1 victory at St James's Park, drifting in to the back post before heading home a perfectly weighted cross from right back Serge Aurier.
It gave him the perfect opportunity to display his new celebration, which involves a contorted hand motion to form a circle around his left eye. As far as modern-day celebrations go, it was rather understated.
But while Alli managed to teach himself, he was unable to impart the wisdom on either Georges-Kevin N'Koudou and Fernando Llorente, who both struggled in their attempts to replicate it.
That was not through want of trying, however, as the French midfielder made several attempts before finally giving up. Alli, filming N'Koudou's struggles on his phone, later shared the videos with his Instagram followers.
Llorente came much closer to successfully executing it, but it appears his dexterity may fall short of what is required.
Alli also tagged his fellow England internationals Jesse Lingard and Danny Welbeck in the posts, suggesting this new fad may have been cooked up during their prolonged stay in Russia for the World Cup.
It also means we could see it spread to Manchester United and Arsenal if and when the aforementioned pair score for their respective clubs.
The contagion has already reached Chelsea's training ground in Cobham where the young striker Tammy Abraham was caught trying to replicate it while looking into his mobile phone.
Izzy Brown, who was filming the seemingly oblivious Abraham, tagged Alli with the caption: 'Bro, teach him please.'
Judging by Alli's failed attempts to teach his own team-mates, Abraham may well be on his own.
