Tottenham vs Watford preview: Spurs must bounce back from 2 humiliating defeats

  /  Dafa316

Tottenham simply must bounce back from their two humiliating defeats before the international break when Watford come to town.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side followed up their record 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League with a surprise 3-0 loss at Brighton, leading to questions about the manager’s future.

TEAM NEWS

Tottenham have a few injuries to contend with. Christian Eriksen suffered a dead leg on international duty and is being assessed, while Hugo Lloris (elbow) continues to be monitored and assessed.

However, Giovani Lo Celso (hip) and Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring) have returned to full training and will be fit for selection on Saturday.

Tottenham have won each of their last nine top-flight home games against Watford, including all six in the Premier League. Their record of six wins from six home games is their best such 100% home winning record in the Premier League.

Watford have won just one of their 12 Premier League meetings with Spurs (D3 L8), with that win coming at Vicarage Road in September 2018.

Since beating Arsenal 2-1 in January 2017, Watford have lost 16 consecutive Premier League away games against 'big six' opponents, scoring just nine goals and conceding 53 in return.

Tottenham have lost five of their last 33 Premier League meetings with sides starting the day bottom of the table (W23 D5 L5) - all five of those defeats have been against teams beginning with 'W' (West Ham, Wigan and West Brom x3).

Christian Eriksen remains unhappy, Dele Alli did not receive an England call-up, with their unpredictable defence topping it off. More woes for Tottenham.

Probable Lineups

Tottenham: Gazzaniga; Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Sissoko, Winks, Ndombele; Eriksen; Kane, Son.

Watford: Foster; Janmaat, Cathcart, Prodl, Kabasele, Holebas; Cleverley, Doucoure, Pereyra; Deulofeu, Gray.
