Tottenham’s shamed transfer supremo Fabio Paratici can repair his reputation and return to football, according to the club’s acting head coach Cristian Stellini — who overcame a match-fixing ban to revive his own career.

Paratici resigned as managing director of Tottenham yesterday, less than 24 hours after a failed legal bid to overturn a 30-month ban imposed by Italy’s sporting authorities, and extended by FIFA to cover world football, for his role in a financial scandal at Juventus.

The 50-year-old, who joined Spurs from Juve in 2021, will continue to fight the punishment.

‘He’s a man who works with passion,’ said compatriot Stellini. ‘I hope for him. I’m very close to him on a human level and hope he will be back.

‘But it’s the decision of Fabio. Also, the judgment is not finished. There is another part of the case and he has to wait and do his best to come back soon.’

In 2012, Stellini found himself in a similar position — he resigned from his role as part of Antonio Conte’s backroom staff at Juventus while he was being investigated for match-fixing allegations relating to his time with Conte at Siena.

Stellini was later banned for two-and-a-half years.
