A large mural in tribute of Liverpool's flying right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold was defaced hours before Wednesday night's Merseyside derby against Everton.
The piece of art is three storeys high and can be found on the corner of Anfield Road near Anfield itself. It appeared during the summer after being arranged by The Anfield Wrap, Liverpool supporters podcast that has grown in prominence during the club's sensational return to the top of English and European football.
As per the Evening Standard, the mural was drawn by French graffiti artist 'Aske' and it shows Alexander-Arnold donning Liverpool's 2018/19 Champions League-winning kit. It was designed in order to pay homage to one of the club's local heroes, and help promote the Fans Supporting Foodbanks initiative.
However, the mural has now been vandalised by Everton fans, with the word 'Kopites' - which is a nickname for Reds fans - being sprayed in blue paint along the bottom of it.
Everton's fans would not have the last laugh though, as they were on the receiving end of a hefty 5-2 thumping from their local rivals. Goals from Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum dispatched a struggling Everton side, who now sit in the relegation zone.
Alexander-Arnold himself was also influential in the victory, as he bagged yet another assist - the 19th of his short Premier League career - by setting up Mane for the fourth Liverpool goal of the night. He also played a huge part in Shaqiri's goal with a magnificent cross-field ball to Mane, who set up the Swiss international with a fantastic reverse pass.
The performance capped off a fantastic week for the England international after he was voted inside the top 20 players for the much-coveted Ballon d'Or award. Teammate Virgil van Dijk finished runner-up behind Lionel Messi, with Mane, Mohamed Salah and Alisson all featuring inside the top seven.
