Eric Dier's confrontation with a Tottenham Hotspur supporter has been the talk of social media overnight following the outburst from the former at the end of a FA Cup tie on Wednesday night.
Spurs midfielder Dier sensationally jumped into the crowd to challenge one of the club's supporters who was verbally abusing him after they were dumped out of the FA Cup fifth round at home to Norwich City on penalties.
Dier was heading for the tunnel until he spotted his brother - a spectator at the match sitting in an area allocated for players' families where the incident occurred - arguing with the fan who had been abusing him.
He then clambered over rows of seats and stormed high into the crowd to wade in as tensions spilled over after Spurs had crashed out on penalties to Norwich, blowing their best hope of winning a trophy this season.
Footage shows a man running away as Dier approaches, before he is held back from chasing the supporter down a stairwell.
And in light of the incident there has been plenty of reaction to it on Twitter.
'Footage shows a man running away as Dier approaches, before he is held back from chasing the supporter down a stairwell,' wrote @AllOfTheBelts. This tweet is particularly poignant with Tottenham's stadium the venue for Anthony Joshua's heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev in June - a fight that was announced on Monday.
@TrollFootball mocked Dier's actions into the stands - comparing it iconic WWE wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin.
@Kierankyle6 was another to try and make fun of the serious situation - sharing a TikTok video of a young male resembling Dier's appearance mocking a fighting stance.

@Josh12Marley referenced iconic British television mockumentary The Office by uploading a video of David Brent. In the three second clip he compares Brent's frustrations with a lady to his perception of how Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho would have viewed the incident with Dier.
'Jose when he turns round and sees Eric Dier jumping into the crowd to fight his own fans,' he wrote. It then proceeds to go to the clip of Brent who says 'Oh for f**** sake.'
