Manchester United are ready to trigger a one-year extension in Nemanja Matic's Old Trafford deal to see off interest from Inter Milan.

Antonio Conte's Inter are reportedly keen to save ex-Chelsea star Matic from his frustrating spell in Manchester and are monitoring his situation.

But according to Corriere Dello Sport, United want to take up their option to extend Matic's deal to avoid losing the player for nothing.

The 31-year-old arrived at Old Trafford from Chelsea for a reported £40million in July 2017, but has not fitted into life at the club as many would have hoped.

He has struggled for starts in recent seasons and has featured just five times for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side this season as his manager has opted to give chances to the likes of Scott McTominay.

Inter boss Conte managed Matic when he was at Stamford Bridge and the player was key for his side as he led them to the Premier League title in the 16/17 season.
