Varane joins Manchester United

The signing of Raphael Varane, World Cup and multiple time Champions League winner, from Real Madrid this summer represented a serious statement of intent for Manchester United.

The Frenchman has gone on to make three appearances thus far for the Red Devils, keeping one clean sheet in the process. In the Frenchman and Harry Maguire, United now have one of the most formidable defensive partnerships in the division.

Varane has reportedly set the club back around 35 million pounds, which could come to represent brilliant value for money should he bring trophies back to Old Trafford.

Varane lifts the lid on his arrival

Now a month into his Manchester United career, Varane spoke to French media to discuss his move and why he made the decision to depart Real Madrid.

Speaking to Telefoot, Varane revealed:

“I needed it, I think it’s something I was feeling on a personal level. I needed a new challenge, to experience new emotions. My time in Madrid was exceptional, above all expectations that had been set. I think I’m going into a new adventure now. It’ll push me to leave my comfort zone.”

“It’s going well, it’s a good group of guys. It’s young, and it’s dynamic. There’s really a spirit of camaraderie. I’m happy to be part of this squad.”

“There was a lot of emotion [at my unveiling] because I was given a great welcome, it will remain engraved in my memory. [Paul Pogba] has obviously helped me integrate, in his own particular way with his good humour, he’s always teasing. It’s cool, things are going well.”

“I speak a bit of English, but I still need to improve!”

With Ronaldo joining former teammate Varane at Old Trafford for this season, it is feeling like a make-or-break campaign for Solskjaer’s reign in Manchester.
