Vieira is fighting to keep his job as Crystal Palace boss with pressure mounting

Patrick Vieira is fighting to keep his job as Crystal Palace boss following the club's dreadful 2023.

The Eagles are without a win this year and slumped to a 1-0 loss at arch rivals Brighton to leave the club without a victory in 12 matches.

Sportsmail revealed this week that Vieira was under growing pressure to keep his job as a result of his team's dreadful run - and that strain has grown significantly after the loss at the Amex.

The expectancy is that Vieira still gets Sunday's game at Arsenal, but if there are no signs of improvement the club could act.

Next week's International break would provide Palace with the time to replace Vieira ahead of the Premier League fixture against Leicester on April 1.

The lack of an obvious candidate to replace Vieira so late in the season could yet prove a factor.

Palace want to avoid the scenarios Southampton and Leeds found themselves in as both clubs struggled to find successors to Nathan Jones and Jesse Marsch, respectively.

The loss at the Amex was Palace's third defeat in a row. They haven't scored a single goal in their last four games and not scored twice in a match since December.

The Frenchman was appointed at the start of last season following the initial retirement of Roy Hodgson.

He led the team to an FA Cup semi-final and received high praise for transforming Palace into one of the most exciting young teams in the country.

However, their progress has stagnated significantly this season with the team currently in 12th - just three points adrift of the relegation zone.

Palace don't play until Sunday and could be dragged closer to relegation danger of those below them pick up points.
