Vorskla captain spits in his hand and rubs it on his face in tunnel before Arsenal clash

A video of Vorskla Poltava captain Volodymyr Chesnakov shows the Ukrainian spitting on his hand and rubbing it on his face in the Emirates Stadium tunnel before the match with Arsenal.

The disgusting act occurs just moments before the player leads his side out to face Arsenal in one of the biggest matches in the club's history.

It's unclear why Chesnakov decided to wipe his own spit on himself but it's unlikely he would have wanted a video to go viral.

The video was shared on social media with the caption: 'The marvel of the Europa League'.

And it's safe to say many fans haven't taken too kindly to the gross gesture from the player who has been with Vorskla for the entire of his senior career.

One fan said: 'What the hell?... The Vorskla captain just damped his face with..... spit?'

One person rather hopefully suggested: 'It may not be saliva, but he has swallowed water and soap first, or a dental mouthwash.'

Another wrote: 'What good luck would that do? Luck?'

If it was for good luck, it didn't work, as Vorskla succumbed to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Arsenal, although they did score two late goals to bring it back from 4-0.

It was something that disappointed Arsenal boss Unai Emery, who called on his players to maintain their high levels for the whole 90 minutes.

'It's our disappointment today,' he said of the two goals after the match.

'Little by little, we are conceding a few chances to the opposition, the same like in Newcastle.

'But we need to continue to improve on this because in the last minute in Newcastle and again today in the last 20 minutes, we conceded two goals.

'Our challenge is to be competitive for 90 minutes of each match and this is one thing to improve.'
