Arsenal fans have been left split over Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway's rendition of their club anthem 'North London Forever' after the Gunners' thumping win over Real Madrid.

Mikel Arteta's side put themselves in a commanding position to advance to the semi-final of the Champions League after a devastating 3-0 win over the reigning champions at the Emirates.

Declan Rice stole the show with two pin-point free-kicks, while Mikel Merino continued his hot streak in front of goal by adding the third.

The performance and result prompted a groundswell of jubilation from all associated with the Gunners, including celebrity fan Anne Hathaway, who took to social media to sing the club's favourite song.

However, the Devil Wears Prada star's rendition often times veered into sombre rather than heartfelt and proved uneasy viewing - and listening - for some Arsenal fans.

'Really difficult watch that Anne lad,' wrote on user on TikTok. Another said: 'What did I just watch.'

'Surprisingly painful watch from Anne,' said a third, while another quipped: 'I always wondered why Christian Bale hated her on set now I know why.'

There weren't all negative comments for the 42-year-old, who last week took to Instagram to welcome Bukayo Saka back to the side following his long injury lay-off. Hathaway received some praise from fans on the platform for her version of the club anthem.

The Les Miserables star Hathaway previously declared her love for Arsenal when a video went viral of her celebrating Leandro Trossard scoring against Wolves last season.

Trossard subsequently sent Hathaway a video message, as he said: 'Hey Anne, I really loved your celebration the other day for my goal.

'Keep supporting us, and hopefully we'll see you soon at the Emirates.'

Hathaway watched the video with her The Idea of You co-star and fellow Arsenal supporter Nicholas Galitzine, and said she was 'shaking' after being left stunned that Trossard had got in touch.

The Gunners welcome Brentford to the Emirates on Saturday evening before the second leg at the Bernabeu next week.
