Wanyama returns for Spurs after missing Kenya tie

Wanyama failed to show up for the national team assignment in an Afcon qualifying match against Ghana

Victor Wanyama made his English Premier League debut this season with seven minutes of action in Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday.

The Kenyan Captain has struggled with injury since the start of the season after he picked a recurring knee problem in an international match against Barcelona during Spurs’ pre-season tour of the States.

Wanyama came in as a second-half substitute for Mauricio Pochettino side, but even his late introduction could not help Spurs stop Liverpool from picking their fifth straight victory in the first five games of the season. The Reds have only managed such a record twice before Saturday’s victory at Wembley Stadium.

But Wanyama’s cameo appearance, having replaced Eric Dier in the 83rd minute, might not be taken lightly, in Kenyan fans, more so Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne, who accused his skipper of lack of respect.

This is after the former Celtic midfielder failed to show up for the national team assignment in an Afcon qualifying match against Ghana last weekend.

Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino scored for Liverpool in either half while Érik Lamela pulled a consolation for Spurs.
