Defending champions Warri Wolves brushed aside amateur side Tellectual Football Club of Warri 3-1 to secure a place in the final of the Delta State Football Association Arthur Ferdinand Federation Cup.

The experienced Seasiders, who remain one of the most successful clubs in the history of the competition, showed their class from the start as they raced into an early lead.

Emmanuel Arigboha opened the scoring in the 10th minute, setting the tone for a commanding first-half performance.

Warri Wolves doubled their advantage in the 40th minute through in-form striker Igbunu Evwierhurhoma, who continued his impressive scoring run.

The forward struck again five minutes later to complete his brace and hand the title holders a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

Tellectual FC returned for the second half with renewed determination and pushed forward in search of a comeback.

However, Warri Wolves’ disciplined defence stood firm for most of the contest, frustrating the spirited amateur side.

Their persistence finally paid off in the 81st minute when Wilson Madu rose highest to head home from a cross and reduce the deficit.

The late goal lifted Tellectual FC and sparked hopes of a dramatic finish, but Warri Wolves managed the closing stages professionally to seal victory and book another final appearance.

Warri Wolves will now face DE Sapele Lions FC in what promises to be an exciting final after the Sapele-based side edged Morak FC of Uvwie in the first semi-final.

DE Sapele Lions took the lead in the 60th minute through Jonathan Ebule and looked set for victory before Morak FC found a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time.

Precious Sunday’s cross took a deflection and found the net in the 90th minute, forcing the contest into penalties.

The shootout proved tense and closely fought, with both teams taking nine spot-kicks each. DE Sapele Lions eventually triumphed 6-5 to secure a second consecutive appearance in the final after finishing runners-up last year.

The championship match between Warri Wolves and DE Sapele Lions will be played on Sunday at the Southern Delta University Stadium in Ozoro, with kickoff scheduled for 12 noon.

Former Super Eagles stars are expected to attend the highly anticipated final, adding glamour to what is set to be a thrilling conclusion to this year’s tournament.
