Watford's Mattie Pollock has agreed to join Aberdeen on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 21-year-old has only registered four appearances across all competitions so far this season and is heading to Scotland in a bid to experience more first team opportunities.

Pollock joined Watford in May 2021 for an initial fee of £250,000, before spending a season on loan at Cheltenham last campaign.

The defender's exit marks a busy January window at Vicarage Road, with five new additions joining Slaven Bilic's squad.

Udinese winger Matheus Martins arrived on New Year's Day, followed by Benfica duo Henrique Araujo and Joao Ferreira, Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous and Montreal Impact midfielder Ismael Kone.

Watford dropped to fourth in the Championship following Saturday's disappointing 2-0 loss against play-off rivals Middlesbrough.

Despite falling 18 points behind league leaders Burnley and 12 points behind Sheffield United in second, the Hornets are hoping to seal promotion back to Premier League after suffering relegation under Roy Hodgson last summer.

Watford take on Reading next Saturday before hosting Blackburn the following weekend.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen sit seventh in the Scottish top flight having experienced a woeful start to 2023.

Since their 2-0 victory against St Johnstone on January 7, Aberdeen have suffered four consecutive defeats across all competitions, losing in a shock Scottish Cup upset to non-league side Darvel before a humiliating 6-0 thrashing against Hibernian on Saturday.

Pollock will hope he can help shore up Aberdeen's defence during his short-term loan at the club.
