'We play so good' - Guardiola is happy with Man City performance vs Newcastle

Pep Guardiola was pleased with Manchester City's display at Newcastle despite seeing his side's chances of a third successive Premier League crown take another blow.

The Blues twice took the lead at St James' Park but Raheem Sterling's opener was cancelled out by Jetro Willems three minutes later, then when Kevin De Bruyne's stunning volley restored City's advantage they could only hold on to the lead for six minutes before Jonjo Shelvey's late equaliser.

City dominated possession against a deep Newcastle side and while Guardiola wanted his players to shift the ball quicker in the first half, he was generally pleased with the performance of his team.

"It was a tight game like we expected, they defend solid, had 10 players in the box," Guardiola said.

"It's one of those days, they defend so deep, we play so good. Maybe in the first half we should move more left-right-right-left, but we create enough chances. We conceded two short on target and concede two goals.

"The way we played was really good, we created chances and 10 players in the box is not easy, [Martin] Dubravka made good saves."

One disappointment for Guardiola was Fernandinho's concession of a late free-kick for a rash foul on Javier Manquillo, from which Jonjo Shelvey fired in from the edge of the area after the set-piece was worked short.

"At the end we shouldn't concede the free-kick and Shelvey made the difference," Guardiola said.

"Shelvey put it in the corner, [but] we could have avoided it in that position."
