West Ham United have turned their attention to signing Watford defender Craig Dawson after being priced out of the market for James Tarkowski.
Hammers boss David Moyes has made no secret of wanting another centre-half and sees the experienced Dawson as ticking a lot of boxes.
The 30-year-old has played more than 350 times for Rochdale, Bolton, West Brom and Watford, where he was relegated from the Premier League last season.
He is also a scoring threat at set-pieces with 43 goals in his career. His only appearance for the Hornets this season came in an EFL Cup defeat at Newport.
West Ham’s board has been criticised for their lack of activity in the transfer market so far with right-back Vladimir Coufal from Slavia Prague their only notable addition so far.
They reportedly made a £30million bid for England’s Tarkowski but Burnley made it clear it was nowhere near their valuation.
