West Ham's Hawa Cissoko has received racist and threatening messages on social media after she was sent off against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Cissoko saw red in the final minutes of the match after throwing a punch at Villa's Sarah Mayling. The defender was then involved in an altercation with the Villa bench as she went off the pitch.
Hammers boss Paul Konchesky was also sent off for 'aggressive behaviour' after squaring up to members of the Villa coaching team.
Sportsmail has learned Cissoko has since been targeted with threatening messages, some of which were of a racist nature.
The defender herself tweeted on Saturday evening: 'But luckily I'm touched by very few things, huh! Because between the nonsense and the (very violent) insults that are said! That's to kill yourself!'
West Ham will not be making any further comments at this stage but said that the matter is being dealt with internally.
The Hammers held on to beat Villa 2-1, despite the late sending off. Goals from Dagny Brynjarsdottir and Honoka Hayashi had put them 2-0 ahead before Kenza Dali pulled one back in the second half. Alisha Lehmann also missed a penalty for Villa.
Speaking on the incident involving Cissoko after the game, Villa boss Carla Ward said: 'I've never seen anything like that in a game, the punch in the face from Cissoko is not acceptable.
'The melee in the dugout is absolutely not ok, from what I've seen. What's frustrating is our girls were superb, they deserved more from that game.'
On his sending off, Konchesky added: 'Is it harsh? Probably, because I'm sticking up for my player who is getting stuff said to her.
'Whatever the consequences are, I'll take. We don't want to see that, I get it, but I'll stick up for my players, so I have.'
