Tomas Soucek suffered a nasty head clash in the West Ham's London derby with Tottenham but the Czech midfielder still played on even though blood was gushing from his head.
With the Hammers defending a 1-0 lead over Spurs in the first-half, Soucek was left wounded after banging heads with Davinson Sanchez inside his own box but got back up to try and block a follow-up shot from Harry Kane.
Soucek was left needing considerable treatment from the Hammers physios and spent five minutes away from the pitch before coming back on to carry on the match.
West Ham had the option to take Soucek off using the new concussion substitutes rule but the medical staff did not deem it necessary to take off the midfielder.
He came back onto the pitch later on in the match with a small bandage on his head where contact with Sanchez's head was made.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who has eight goals in 24 league matches this season, was praised on social media by pundits and supporters for his bravery.
Former West Ham forward Trevor Sinclair described the midfielder's determination as 'magnificent' despite the blow to his head.
Sinclair tweeted: 'Soucek’s reaction to block the shot after he won the header & got butted in the head is magnificent'
Former Premier League midfielder Jamie O'Hara added: 'Soucek getting up to block the shot after his head has just been opened up is everything I want to see in a footballer #WHUTOT'
The recovery from the injury won Soucek even more supporters from inside the West Ham fanbase on social media.
One Hammers fan said: 'Love that Soucek took that smash to the face and just got up to try and block the ball!! My man'
Another tweeted: 'Slavs are a different breed. Tomas Soucek could’ve been fresh from a 6 month stint in a Siberian POW camp and he’d still want to be up to head in a corner. They are superhuman'
One West Ham fan claimed Soucek should be given the 'Hammer of the Year' award while another compared the player's bravery to Mohamed Salah's antics when going down in the penalty area.
Liverpool's Egyptian winger won a spot kick against West Ham earlier in the season after a challenge from Angelo Ogbonna and was accused of diving to win the penalty by several pundits.
The West Ham supporter tweeted: 'Compare the difference between Soucek getting up immediately with blood all over his face, and Salah throwing his hands in the air and going down like he was shot when a defender breaths near him.'
