Arsenal news: Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale replaced Bernd Leno as Mikel Arteta's first-choice in north London and the pair were reunited this weekend
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale reunited with former teammate Bernd Leno this afternoon as the Gunners welcomed Fulham to the Emirates Stadium.
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno made his return to the Emirates Stadium for the second time after leaving the club last summer. The German spent four years in north London after signing from Bayer Leverkusen in Unai Emery's first window in charge.
He made 125 appearances for the Gunners before losing his place at Arteta's No.1 to Ramsdale and is now the first-choice goalkeeper at Fulham.
And before this afternoon's Premier League clash, Leno and Ramsdale were spotted sharing a nice moment between each other. Both goalkeepers have a pre-match ritual of bouncing the ball on the centre circle and both perform said ritual in front of each other before sharing a laugh.
Previously, Ramsdale has gone on record to heap praise on Leno. Speaking on the 'Yours, Mine, Away' podcast in 2022, he said: “This was Bernd Leno, this is an international goalkeeper who’s been outstanding for the past three years. And it wasn’t his fault that the team were losing games.
"So it wasn’t just: ‘he’s having a stinker, I’m in’. He was still performing very, very well. And I just had the opportunity to get in. And I knew when I got my chance, I just had to stay there. Some of his saves he’s making, I can’t do that.”
