'What a finish! Welcome back!' - Arsenal fans mock Mustafi after his own goal

Liverpool's League Cup victory over Arsenal was full of highlights, but Shkodran Mustafi will certainly be looking to forget one or two moments, particularly his role in the first goal.

As Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain broke down the right flank, he put in a cross from the edge of the box. Rhian Brewster looked to get on the end of it, but Mustafi unfortunately put it into the back of his own net as he tried to defend.

Attempting to clear the ball with the outside of his right foot rather than the more natural left, the defender made an absolute mess of it.

Of course, Liverpool's fans loved it, but in fact it was Arsenal's fans who criticised Mustafi the most on social media.

'Welcome back Mustafi,' said one commenter. Mustafi has not featured for Arsenal this season in the Premier League, and has made just one appearance in the League Cup against Nottingham Forest.

'Mustafi is all of us,' said another sarcastically. 'Scoring an own goal on purpose so we get a new manager. Proper Gooner. My centre-back.'

Unai Emery has been under fire of late, and on Wednesday it emerged that Jose Mourinho could be a potential replacement.

'Mustafi is a living a legend. What a finish,' said another Twitter user, while someone else added: 'That really is classic Mustafi.'

It was a barnstormer of the match, with goal after goal going in. Eventually it finished 5-5 and went to penalties.

Liverpool scored all five of theirs, and will be going through to the next round thanks to a save from Caoimhin Kelleher denying Dani Ceballos' spot kick.
