Arsenal are back in action this evening when they face Southampton at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.

The Gunners will be looking to go seven points clear ahead of Manchester City. However, Pep Guardiola's men will have two games in hand after tonight as they are on FA Cup duty this weekend.

The two sides will go head-to-head next week in what could be a pivotal moment in the title race.

Arsenal fans may have something to cheer about this evening as they look ahead to  St Totteringham's Day.

But what is St Totteringham's Day? And when can Arsenal qualify for the Champions League? Mail Sport provides all the answers below.

What is St Totteringham's Day?

St Totteringham's Day is the name given when Tottenham can no longer mathematically finish above Arsenal.

It is believed that the concept was introduced in 2002 when it appeared on the Arsenal fan website 'Arseweb.'

However, the concept did not become well-known until 2010. Since then, the term 'St Totteringham's Day' has been commonly used in relation to the north London rivalry.

With seven games left of the Premier League season, the Gunners are 21 points clear of Spurs.

What do Arsenal need?

Arteta's men are set to host Premier League strugglers Southampton at the Emirates, with the Gunners looking to go seven points clear of Manchester City.

A win tonight will mean that Tottenham can no longer finish above the Gunners in the league standings.

As the league leaders are playing before Spurs, a win will take them 24 points clear ahead of Cristian Stellini's men. Should Spurs win all of their remaining games, the side can only finish on 74 points.

When was the last time Arsenal finished above Spurs?

For the last seven seasons, Spurs have finished above their bitter rivals in the league standings.

The last time the Gunners finished above Spurs was in the 2015/16 season.

Arsenal ended up finishing second after their 4-0 win in the final game of the season against Aston Villa.

On the same day, Spurs needed a win to ensure that they would finish above Arsene Wenger's side. However, they would go on to lose 5-1 at Newcastle and ended up finishing in third, one point behind the Gunners.

When can Arsenal qualify for the Champions League?

Arsenal can secure their place in next season's Champions League with a win against the Saints this evening.

This is because a win will put them on 77 points whilst Brighton and Spurs can only finish on 76 and 74 respectively, providing they win all of their remaining fixtures.

However, should the Gunners fail to pick up all three points this evening, the side can secure their top-four spot with a win next week against Manchester City.

Arsenal's remaining Premier League fixtures after Southampton are as followed:
