Aston Villa will be looking to reach the group stage of a European competition for the first time since 2008.

Unai Emery's side qualified for the Europa Conference League play-off round after finishing seventh in the Premier League last season.

Their win over Brighton and Hove Albion on the final day of the season secured their place in the qualifiers, with the Villains finishing one point above Tottenham in the league table.

When will Aston Villa play in the Europa Conference League?

Aston Villa will enter the Europa Conference League at the final play-off round before the group stage draw.

Their first-leg is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 24, while the return fixture will take place a week later.

Who will they play?

Emery's side will either play Hibernian or Swiss side FC Lurzen for a place in the group stage.

The first leg between Luzern and the Scottish side will take place tomorrow evening.

The second leg will take place in Switzerland on Thursday, August 17, with kick-off at 7.45pm BST.

When does the Europa Conference League start?

The draw for the Europa Conference League group stage will take place on Friday, September 1.

Matchday One will commence on Thursday, September 21, while the final matchday will take place on Thursday, December 14.

This year's final will take place at the Agia Sofia Stadium on May 29.
