What do you know about the Mexican midfielder reportedly attracting attention from the Premier League?

He may not be a household name in England at the moment, but Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera could well be in the coming years, with Arsenal, Spurs and Crystal Palace among the clubs reportedly interested in signing him.

The 28-year-old, who has played in two World Cups for Mexico, has been the subject of much attention in recent weeks, with scouts from several different clubs, including Arsenal, Spurs and Palace, reported to have scouted him in games for his club side, Porto.

And it is being reported in Portugal that Palace had scouts watching Herrera once again on Sunday during the Portuguese Primeira Liga clash between Benfica and Porto.

This follows recent reports that Palace and Spurs had scouts in attendance at Porto's match against Tondela a week earlier and for the Champions League clash against Galatasaray in midweek.

Herrera's side lost out against Benfica yesterday, but Portuguese publication A Bola said he was Porto's best player.

The Mexican's contract with Porto expires at the end of the current season, with several clubs across Europe said to be monitoring his situation.

Premier League rivals Watford have also been linked, while Spurs are understood to also be keeping a close eye on the 28-year-old's situation.

And the central midfielder, who has five goals in 70 appearances at international level for Mexico, is understood to have impressed the watching scouts with his performances.

Indeed, the competition for his signature is likely to be fierce, should he leave Porto, who he joined back in July 2013 from Mexican side Pachuca for a fee in the region of €11m.

It is understood that Arsenal are looking at Herrera as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsey, who is expected to leave the Gunners next year.

However, several other top European sides, including Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Roma, have also been linked with signing the Mexican, either in a cut-price deal in January, or when his contract expires.

He played all four matches for Mexico at the World Cup in Russia this summer, covering 42.6km in the four games and completing 178 of 202 attempted passes.

Herrera also won the gold medal at the Olympics with Mexico in London in 2012, while he played at the 2014 World Cup and at the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2017.

He also won the Portuguese league title with Porto last season, and continues to be a regular for the side this season.

But with his contract due to expire in June, there is speculation over whether this could be his last season with Porto, with plenty of interested parties monitoring his situation.
