Why Arsenal wore grey socks as Jesus' celebration is explained

  /  Stamfordblue

Arsenal moved back to the top of the Premier League with a win over Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium. Before the match could get going there was a moment's pause to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II after her passing last week, with fans also standing to applaud on the 70th minute to mark her 70 years on the throne.

Once the game got underway though things started perfectly for the Gunners who found themselves in front early on after William Saliba headed home from a corner. The goal was clearly over the line, but ultimately only given after the intervention of goal line technology. Just before the half hour mark Arsenal then doubled that lead with another header as Gabriel Jesus powered home Granit Xhaka's delightful floated cross, allowing his side to head into the break looking comfortable.

Arsenal's grey socks

For the third game in a row Arsenal turned out in their black away kit that has proved to be very popular among supporters. The strip is supposed to be all black but this week due to a clash in colour, the Gunners played with grey socks instead.

There had been talk when these grey socks were worn against Manchester United due to a similar clash their that Arsenal had used £10 socks that split apart but that wasn't the case. The Gunners team were using their alternate away colour, with some players such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli choosing to cut holes in the back of theirs to allow better blood circulation in their calves.

Why White shouted at Jesus

The first half couldn't have gone much better for Arsenal who found themselves 2-0 up inside half an hour courtesy of early goals from William Saliba and the impressive Gabriel Jesus. That didn't stop Jesus from being held to the same high standards by the rest of his teammates though.

As Ben White received the ball on the right hand side of the pitch looking to build up he became infuriated by the lack of passing options before having to play it backwards to Saliba. The man who bore the front of his frustrations was Jesus, who White yelled "come on" on at for not having dropped deep to be available to receive the ball.

Jesus celebration explained

Gabriel Jesus continued his fine start to the season with yet another goal at the Brentford Community Stadium. While the Brazilian has been praised for his atypical number nine play, this was a classic centre forward's strike as he rose at the back post to head home Granit Xhaka's fine cross.

Jesus then showed his class even further by dedicating his celebration to his international teammate Vinicius Jr. The Real Madrid forward was the subject of racial abuse from the agent Pedro Bravo who had criticised Vinicius for dancing during his celebrations.

Jesus has been vocal in his support of his teammate on social media and continued this by replicating the 22-year-old's dancing celebration himself at the Brentford Community Stadium.
