Díaz’s parents were kidnapped in Barrancas, Colombia last weekend.

Liverpool take on Luton in the Premier League on Sunday and winger Luis Díaz could make a return to action for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Díaz’s parents were kidnapped last weekend in Barrancas, Colombia. His mother was later rescued by police, however, his father Luis Manuel Díaz has yet to return home.

The Colombian government provided an update on Díaz senior on Thursday, reporting that Colombian guerillas the National Liberation Army (ELN) have been responsible for the kidnapping.

“We demand that the ELN immediately releases Mr Luis Manuel Diaz and we say as of now that they are entirely responsible for securing his life and integrity,” the statement read.

Klopp provides update on Díaz

On Friday, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said that the option is there for Díaz to feature against Luton this weekend.

“If he feels right, he will be with us,” said Klopp.

“You can see he didn’t sleep a lot. The news from Colombia gives us a little bit of hope. I cannot say what we will do. It’s up to him, if he makes himself available or not.

“We cannot force the Luis situation. It is not in our hands. We’re all waiting together for good news.”
