Will Ziyech come back to haunt Real Madrid?

There will be a familiar opponent for Real Madrid to contend with at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Tuesday when Los Blancos host Chelsea.

Hakim Ziyech will be looking to emulate what he did against Real Madrid two years ago for Ajax.

The Moroccan playmaker scored in each of the two legs for Ajax, as the Dutch team ran out 5-3 winners on aggregate, stunning the previous holders, Real Madrid, as they bowed out in the round of 16, the first time since the 2009/10 campaign.

But it hasn't all been roses for Ziyech since he arrived in West London for a fee of 40 million euros.

Most of his appearances have come in the shape of a late cameo appearance as the Moroccan international has struggled to find his best form this campaign.

Ziyech has managed just five goals in his 32 appearances for Chelsea and has struggled to find game time both during the reign of Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel.

Despite the lack of game time, Ziyech is thought to be enjoying life under Tuchel and is working hard to force his way into the Chelsea first team following injuries.

"It's different, different to what we had in the last six months [under Frank Lampard], he [Tuchel] is bringing his own vision," Ziyech said on Chelsea's official channels.

"I think the statistics say it all, we are winning a lot of games and we're playing good football, so I think everyone at the club is happy with him."

However, Tuchel has come up against some criticism because of his handling of the Chelsea star.

Dutch legends Marco Van Basten and Dirk Kuyt have slammed the German manager for his lack of confidence and his handling of Ziyech.

"He scored against Manchester City in the FA Cup. Then you think, he may have turned a corner, then the next game boom, on the bench," Kuyt said.

"Ziyech again on the bench. When he gets in, he's like a striker. He can do that too, because he is a good player. I am sad to see [so much] rotation. He's just not in the right place," Van Basten told Voetbalzone.

Should the Moroccan play a part in the match against Real Madrid, he will be up against Ferland Mendy which should prove to be a good contest, although he tends to have freedom to roam in the final third.

Whether or not the Hakim Ziyech of two seasons ago will come back and haunt Real Madrid will remain to be seen but, if he does, it will most probably be in the shape of a cameo appearance.
